Versapak Cytotoxic Carriers transport Cancer Drugs by Drone

Versapak Cytotoxic Carriers transport Cancer Drugs by Drone

The requirement came from St Mary’s Hospital in the Isle of Wight who receive regular deliveries of urgent medicines from Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. The deliveries can take up to 3-4 hours when coming via taxi and ferry, which is a costly and time-consuming way of sending the drugs. By transporting the medicines by drone takes a mere 30 minutes.

Chemotherapy, once it has been created has a very limited shelf life. Typically, once it is made it needs to be in the patient within hours.  Reducing this to a reliable 30 minute flight will be transformative, making available chemotherapy previously prohibited on account of its short shelf life, avoiding patient journeys to the mainland, minimising treatment delays and saving staff time.

Versapak’s medical carriers are manufactured with built-in impact protectors, internal padding and rigid, insulated walls which help to maintain the temperature inside the bag. They fit neatly inside the drone to ensure that the vital life-saving medication reaches its destination in perfect condition.
